“The trick is to make the design spectacular because it’s a Christmas show, but also to keep the story moving through all the different scenes. I also had to work out how to do a garden on stage. The strongest idea I had was to use stained glass – when it isn’t lit the leading looks like the veins of a leaf, and when it is lit it bursts into colour. I also wanted to create the house with all its rooms inside and out… in all its Gothic glory.” Francis O’Connor, Set & Costume Designer
